eBooks Info During COVID-19 Pandemic

  • One repercussion of the stay at home order has been the closure of bookstores, school and public libraries. A student who reads - fiction or nonfiction - for even 20 minutes a day will benefit academically.  It is also an entertaining stress reliever that a student can engage in while quarantined.  So, where can you get FREE books for middle schoolers online?

Many publishers and book dealers are providing free access to eBooks and audiobooks for a limited time.  Others, such as the Livonia Public Library and MEL.org are always available  to Livonia residents.

Thank you to Anna McGuire, Emerson Middle School for compiling information for this page.

I have more curricular resources on my webpage which can be accessed by clicking here.   If you would like help finding materials, please email me at mwolffe@livoniapublicschools.org.

If you have a Livonia Public Library card, you can access Hoopla (all ages - movies, music, ebooks, and audio ebooks), Download Destination (Libby is the new app - all ages - ebooks and audio ebooks), and RBdigital (magazines - all ages).  Through the Livonia Public Library website, you can also access, without a library card, the eBook Public Library Collection (particularly good for nonfiction reading), Tumble Book Library (K-6th grades ebooks), Teen BookCloud (grades 7-12 ebooks), TumbleMath (K-6 math ebooks), AudioBookCloud (all ages), Abdo Digital Bookshelf (there is an elementary and a secondary level - these are particularly good for nonfiction reading).

Even though the libraries are closed, you can contact a librarian with questions.  Livonia Public Library: 734-466-2675.

Tumble book library/teen book cloud TUMBLE BOOK LIBRARY / TEEN BOOK CLOUD

These are two of the resources available through the public library (also mentioned above)

Tumble Book Library and Teen Book Cloud are available from the public library,  These are currently free - without even a library card - until August 31st.  There are many good books here, including some that can be read aloud to the reader.

     jkg digital JLG DIGITAL

If you visit JLG Digital and scroll down just a bit, you can see JLG Digital from Junior Library Guild.  There are three "streams" here: Elementary, Middle and High School.  There are around 50 books (both fiction and nonfiction) here.  But be careful!  The books "expire" and new ones show up.  There will be a notice if the book is near the expiration date and when some books do expire, new books will show up.  So every month, you will see some new books!
