Meet the Principal
It is with great pleasure that I greet you as the new Principal of Roosevelt Elementary School. I join the team with 13 years of experience in education. Prior to accepting this position, I served as a Principal of an elementary school very similar to Roosevelt for 5 years. My experience also includes 8 years as a classroom teacher in grades 1st -5th.
My educational background includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Eastern Michigan University. I’ve earned my Master’s Degree in Bilingual/Bicultural Education and an Education Specialist Degree at Wayne State University.
My husband, Issa and I, have three wonderful children, ages 11-15. Our children, Shije (She-ya) and Yusif are freshman at a local middle college. Our youngest daughter, Amina, will be starting middle school in the fall. Our family loves to travel around the world and explore new places. Our favorite things about traveling are meeting new people, exploring new cultures, food and architecture. Recently during quarantine, we built a chicken coop and have 6 new feathered friends to chase around the yard.
As always, we will provide every student the highest quality education possible in a safe and supportive learning environment. We will have a successful year as our team supports the academic, social, and emotional growth of our children here at Roosevelt Elementary School. We will continue to honor and celebrate the longstanding Roosevelt traditions while we embrace the challenges of the future.
The year will be filled with new and exciting learning experiences as we build positive relationships. Working together as a team, we are committed to helping students achieve their very best. In partnership with the talented, experienced and dynamic staff, we will continue to make Roosevelt a phenomenal place for our students to learn and grow.
I am excited to learn all about Roosevelt students, staff and community. The exceptional culture and climate built by school leadership, staff, students and families will remain a constant. A strong partnership with our PTA will be a priority.
I look forward to sharing my values, beliefs and priorities with each of you over time, as we build our relationship. Relationships are the foundation upon which we grow and develop. Our priority is to fulfill the vision and mission of our district. We always put our students first! Our purpose is to provide a safe, caring, and friendly school community. We will continue to ensure all parents are actively engaged in their child’s education through regular communication and engagement opportunities.
I promise to serve our school and community with integrity, honesty and with the best interest of our students, staff and families in mind. I will approach each day with enthusiasm and energy. Each child’s unique needs and potential will be at the forefront of our work. I will always support all stakeholders in their quest for educational excellence as we develop our best practices together.
The priority remains students first, as we pave our path forward. I look forward to meeting each and every one of you. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions, concerns or feedback. Thank you for the opportunity to join and serve the Roosevelt Elementary School family! Hand in hand, together we can. GO TIGERS!
For the kids,
Mrs. Diana Shahin, Ed.S.
